BIODRUM WASTEWATER TREATMENT

The unique feature of the “BioDrum” project lies in its affordability, consuming only 60 to 70 percent of the cost compared to conventional sewage treatment plants. In addition, the project reduces electricity consumption by 30 to 40 percent and requires only 30 to 40 percent of the space typically needed for traditional systems. This makes it highly accessible and offers significant opportunities for dissemination and expansion. 

The “BioDrum” project addresses the requirement for sewage treatment plants imposed by authorities while granting construction permits for buildings or housing societies with a minimum of 100 flats. By providing a less expensive, electricity-efficient, and space-saving alternative, the project eliminates the need for regular sludge removal, making it more convenient and less labor-intensive. 

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has praised the project and confirmed that it does not require separate approval for its implementation. The treated effluent water simply needs to meet the board’s specified standards, which are verified through testing conducted by the board itself. 

The “BioDrum” project utilizes biological technology, eliminating the need for chemicals and ensuring ease of operation. It involves various components such as a screen chamber, BioDrum, sand filter, carbon filter, and UV sterilizer. The manufacturing company offers a mechanical warranty of 15 years, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the system. 

The cost-effectiveness of the “Biodrum” project is evident, with the current project costing around Rs. 27 lakhs for a capacity of 70,000 liters per day. In comparison, the “Biodrum” project costs between Rs. 20 to 22 lakhs, significantly reducing the financial burden. Moreover, the annual electricity bill is reduced from Rs. 18 to 20 lakhs in conventional projects to just Rs. 5 to 7 lakhs with the “Biodrum” system. 

The project’s compact design requires only 20 to 25 square meters of space, making it suitable for installation in semi-urban and urban areas. Additionally, the “Biodrum” project minimizes the odor typically associated with conventional systems, ensuring a more pleasant environment.
